Welcome! My name is Kate.
I grew up in the Highlands of Scotland, but I have spent my adult life in London, with a few years abroad, in Germany and the USA. After years of only visiting family in Scotland, I have now moved back. In my 60s I am enjoying a new phase of my life with my daughter, but without my beloved husband Gregory, who died in 2019.
I want to share stories that I hope will inspire you to reflect on your own experiences, and to look at them from a different, sometimes ignored perspectives. Please, tell your stories, and keep your memoirs & photos safely, creating a legacy for future generations.
After my husband died I realised how few of his stories I knew, or could pass on to our daughter. He left hundreds of photos, of people and places I did not know. Gregory was very IT literate, but I still lost some of his documents in the digital dark hole of the Internet.
It made me realise that we need to tell our stories, and save them safely.
I started this blog to encourage people to write their own stories; to show who you are, what you love, and how you live. And to encourage you to save your stories, photos & mementos safely (preferably in printed books and documents), thereby leaving a legacy for future generations.
I publish a Motley Story every Saturday evening, and add occasional links to other posts I think my readers will like in my Substack Notes. Please join me - I love to read comments and always try to reply.
My bio picture is from a painting. To find out more read this article about why this painting will be in my old folk’s home.
