Great post! It's so important to remember and document the small stuff. I have my mother's diary from her high school years in the early 30s and just reading her little book has given me so much insight to her and how much we are alike. She died 52 years ago when I was 21. I'm in the process of writing about her life from her words but I also have been an avid journal writer ( and for several years taught journal writing) and have lots to draw on for my own story. Again, thanks for this great piece.

Thank you for your comment. I am so sad for your loss at such a young age. What a great idea to write about your mother's life by including her diary. And as a journal writer, you have all your own source material ready if you want to write your own memoir.

Oh my goodness! I thoroughly enjoyed your post. I’m inspired to write a journal about my days taking care of my granddaughters who are 4, 2 and 2. Two of them I take care of each day of the week. One of them I have for overnights while her mommy and daddy have a night out. The things we talk about, the games we play, making sure we have our toy Bluey and Bingo readily available, pretending to be Chase on the Paw Patrol, bubbles in the backyard. So many small things to write about. Each small thing will be magical when they are grown. Thank you for this post!

I am so glad you enjoyed the post. Your grandchildren are at a wonderful age (mind you they are all wonderful ages) and you sound like a very fun grandma. I agree, when they are grown it will be magical and very special to have grandma's notebook with her observations, their funny sayings, and photos.

Your post hits the nail, for sure. The small things are the best. I always think that setting the bar low (as in not striving for what others have) is the path to happiness. Another great post, thank you.
